The ElevateCOS project, running through June 2026 in partnership with Nunn Construction, seeks to overhaul aging infrastructure. The upgrades focus on expanding gate seating designed for smaller aircraft and integrating accessibility features that cater to the city's military veteran population and Paralympic community. Beyond structural changes, the airport is refreshing its retail and dining landscape, bringing in local culinary figures like Brother Luck and implementing Amazon’s 'Just Walk Out' technology to streamline the passenger experience.
Colorado Springs Airport bets on convenience over size
For travelers navigating the Rockies, Colorado Springs Airport is positioning itself as the stress-free alternative to the massive, bustling Denver International Airport. Director of Aviation Alex Kovacs is steering a $55 million modernization project aimed at transforming the facility from a simple transit point into a destination for regional efficiency.

Kovacs is also prioritizing global connectivity. With a new Federal Inspection Station scheduled for 2025, the airport aims to capture a portion of the 450 daily passengers currently commuting to Denver for flights to Los Angeles. While the airport serves as a critical diversion point for United Airlines, the long-term strategy involves securing direct commercial routes to key hubs like Washington, D.C. This development is supported by the surrounding airport campus, which includes the expanding Peak Innovation Business Park and a $475 million manufacturing facility from Swire Coca-Cola, bolstered by new utility and power infrastructure partnerships.
